The album has since been certified gold by the RIAA. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, selling 371,000 copies in its first week. Upon its release, 2014 Forest Hills Drive received generally positive reviews from music critics. The album recounts the story of Cole leaving North Carolina and moving to New York City in pursuit of his dreams, and the sacrifices that he made in order to find success within the music industry.
